SEO Copywriting & Content Development

By admin • February 10th, 2009

SEO copywriting remains an integral part of successful internet advertising.  Giving up on user experience in a bid to get more traffic is a poor tradeoff. You end up with a bit more traffic in the short term, perhaps, but you end up with a site that is less linkable, and that probably has a lower conversion rate. This ends up being creating problems for your business in the short term, but hurt your business in the long term.

Avoid being short-sided—search engine optimized copywriting, a.k.a. SEO copywriting, is critical to the success of your internet marketing strategy and the effectiveness of your website optimization. Your content must strike a balance between being recognized by the search engines under your desired keywords and communicating your message to your target audience.

SEO copywriting is an ongoing process that continually evolves with your website. As your services and products change, so should your relative website content. Content development involves enriching your existing content and adding new content to further improve your rankings on the search engines.  Create a “theme” among a group of pages within a web site to give each page legitimacy and relevance from the engine’s perspective. Make sure each page is relevant to the initial search and contains enough information that is easily navigated via multiple, text-rich pages. Typically, you’ll need at least 5 pages to create a theme. Anything less could appear to be SPAM or doorway pages to the search engines.  The fact of the matter is that search engines love good fresh content that is well written using a fundamental keyword strategy.  SEO marketing is a lot more exciting when dealing with good publishers that produce quality website copywriting and interesting content with a call to action.

But, remember to make your content easy to read. Stuffing keywords throughout the sales copy may bring more traffic through the website, but if the focus is too much on search engine optimization, your web traffic will leave quickly. The content must be useable and entice your web visitors to take action (e.g., download a free report, subscribe to a newsletter, make a purchase or otherwise fulfill your objective).
